"If I see everything in gray, and in gray all the colours which I experience and which I would like to reproduce, then why should I use any other colour? I've tried doing so, for it was never my intention to paint only with gray. But in the course of my work I have eliminated one colour after another, and what has remained is gray, gray, gray!" |

Gray is the colour of intellect, knowledge, and wisdom. It is supposed to be a classic colour with long-lasting effect. The colour communicates a dignified and sometimes conservative outlook; and in many cultures it is supposed to be associated with authority. Gray is controlled and subtle. As it exists between the extremes of black and white, it is supposed to have some properties of both. Darker shades of gray are said to ward of hatred and negative emotions, but they should be used only in conjunction with white. |

Gray is a perfect neutral, which is why designers often use it as a background colour. It is perceived as timeless, practical, and solid. Some people also associate grey with being elegant and futuristic. |
